Painted BuntingBanding Demo
Join us on Saturday (5/25) for our first public banding demo at Carolina Beach State Park! We’re excited to be kicking off the season and hope to see you there! The park opens at 7 and we will be banding until about 11. Find us in the marina area just below the flag. Fun for all ages!
All banding is being conducted under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey’s Bird Banding Lab. *Handling wildlife without training, permission, or expertise is not advisable and may be illegal.

World Migratory Bird Day Walk with Cape Fear Audubon
Help us celebrate World Migratory Bird Day! The outing is co-led by Cape Fear Audubon, so you don't want to miss it! Come prepared for a two-mile walk on a flat but sandy trail to learn about birds and insects, and why is it important to protect both.

National Bird Day Bird Walk with Cape Fear River Watch!

Field Gear Donation Drive
Help UNCW wildlife, biology, and environmental science students as they embark on their career journeys! Some outdoor clothing and gear can be prohibitively expensive for students still in college or just graduating. You can help so much by donating your gently used or new outdoor clothing and gear. Public Banding Demo
Join us for a live Painted bunting banding demo on Saturday with our lead painted bunting bander, Chelsea Bullock! We’ll be at the Carolina Beach State Park marina near the flagpole starting around 7am and going until about 11. As always, wild animals will do as they please so we may not have any present while you are there, but we hope to! Keep your eyes on our socials for any changes due to weather. We will have our new merch available and in-person bunting adoptions available as well! We hope to see you there!
Bird around the block with the Cape Fear Museum
FREE EVENT! Calling all bird enthusiasts! Join Evan Buckland of the Cape Fear Bird Observatory and Cape Fear Museum staff for a birdwatching stroll around downtown Wilmington. We will explore the abundance of species that can be seen and heard in the city around the museum and answer any bird-related questions you may have.
This program is suitable for all ages, free to attend and will begin in the museum park. Bring a water bottle and pair of binoculars if you have them (several pairs will be available to borrow during the program). Kid-friendly bird activities will be available in the Exploration Station after the program to further the feathered fun!
Birdwatching stroll will depart the museum park around 9:15 am and return by 10 am.

Public Banding Demo

Any wildlife program is subject to the whims of wildlife, so there is no guarantee that buntings will be present, but Carolina Beach State Park is an excellent place to see them, so hopes are high! We will be located in the marina area of Carolina Beach State Park just beside the flagpole. This event is family friendly!
